Soaring Forward Together

Planning a Strong Future for Our Cardinals

At Langdon Area Schools, we are committed to providing every student with the resources they need to succeed. This starts with ensuring our school buildings are healthy, safe, and prepared to support daily learning.

As our school buildings age, the need for repairs and replacements of worn out and obsolete infrastructure have grown. Our schools are no longer able to keep up with these costs using the annual maintenance budget alone, leaving key parts of our buildings’ infrastructure at risk of even costlier wear and tear.

We are committed to ensuring our buildings are kept in good condition to support the students of today and tomorrow. That is why on Tuesday, June 10, Langdon Area Schools will ask residents to consider a $19.9 million investment plan that would make impactful repairs and learning space improvements for our schools. If approved, this referendum would:

  • Improve the integrity of our school buildings to ensure they can reliably serve our students and community for decades to come.

  • Strengthen safety and security to better serve students and staff.

  • Provide elementary students and staff with adequate space for physical education, athletics, and dining.

  • Ensure our buildings are healthy, comfortable, and energy efficient.

This website will be updated soon with full details of the challenges facing our school buildings, the plan to address them, the tax impact of the plan, and how residents can cast their ballots. Stay tuned!

What is a bond referendum?

A school bond referendum is an election in which local voters decide whether or not to approve a property tax increase for the purpose of funding improvements to the buildings and infrastructure of their local schools. If approved, the bond referendum funds all improvements at once and the cost is paid off annually over time.

The Investment Plan

The $19.9 million investment would address the most urgent maintenance, security, and learning space needs at both buildings. If approved, the plan would make common-sense investments at both schools.

Questions About The Proposed Plan

  • The total cost of the proposed investments at our two schools is $19.9 million. If voters approve the plan, it will be supported by a property tax increase within our district. This tax would have a maximum term of 20 years.

If you are a property owner, your exact tax impact will be determined based upon the true and full value of your property as it appears on your latest tax statement. Our district is working with public financing experts and the county auditor to determine these specific impacts so that every property owner can easily determine how much the referendum would cost them.

  • Our district relied on feedback from community members and expert assessments of our building to determine the most pressing needs of our schools. These efforts have included:

    • Over half a dozen listening sessions with students, staff, board members and community members to identify the top limitations posed by our buildings’ maintenance and learning space needs.

    • A comprehensive facilities assessment of the condition of our buildings’ infrastructure.

    • An educational adequacy assessment to evaluate whether our learning spaces meet recommended guidelines.

    • A demographic analysis to understand the district's future enrollment projections.

    • Surveys of staff members.

    • A community meeting to update residents on the plan’s development prior to calling for a referendum.

  • Election Day is Tuesday, June 10. Polls will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Langdon High School Commons Area. This will be the polling location for all district residents.
